Old Milverton Church wedding + Saxon Mill riverside reception.
I LOVED THIS OLD MILVERTON AND SAXON MILL WEDDING IT WAS SUCH A PLEASURE TO FILM AND PHOTOGRAPH. THIS PART OF THE WORLD IS FIRMLY IMPRINTED IN MY PERSONAL MEMORY BANKS AS IT’S WHERE I GREW UP (AND CANOODLED WITH MY FIRST LOVE) SO IT WAS EXTRA SPECIAL TO DOCUMENT THE SAME FOR ALEX & DAN.
The Saxon Mill is a beautiful and very old riverside pub and wedding venue in the Warwickshire countryside. Alex and Dan chose this as their wedding reception venue for its gorgeous scenery, outdoor entertaining space and cute, intimate wedding reception room.
They decided to get married in Old Milverton Church as it is literally a walk across the fields from the Mill but unfortunately, the plan of walking there was quashed by an annoying tree fall that closed the bridge across the river. This didn’t sully the day one little bit though, it was relaxed, fun and full of laughter from start to finish.
The happy couple on how did I as their Saxon Mill Wedding Photographer:
“Oh Charlie, what beautiful photos, thank you so much. We really felt like we were reliving the day going through them. You seemed to have perfectly captured everyone’s personalities in the photos and also the beautiful scenery, which we love so much! Dan is a little camera shy but you really put him at ease and he loves the photos. I’ve also had quite a few comments back from friends saying ‘how good the photographer was’ and how well you blended in. I can’t wait to share the photos with our family and friends now and pick some out to go in frames. Thanks again, Alex and Dan x”
More detail about the day
The Ceremony
Alex and Dan are both dedicated to the Church so it was important to them both to have a Church wedding ceremony. However, they were also in search of an intimate, relaxed and fun wedding day in a beautiful scenic place. To make both of these worlds meet they decided to do the legal bit alone a few weeks beforehand, run off for a blissful break in Majorca and then have a blessing at the church of their choice in a place that they love.
So Old Milverton Church it was! Such a lovely wee church. The first thing that struck me when I arrived (pre-ceremony) was the gorgeous Choir voices I heard, which I later found out belonged to some of their friends and wedding guests – a special touch!
The Tea Party
Right next to Old Milverton Church is a lovely little village hall nestled in a cute grassed garden space; perfect for post-church cake! After their ceremony, Alex, Dan and all of their guests headed to the village hall for some bubbles and a feast of homemade cakes. The hall had been decorated with bunting and vintage tablecloths and the scorching weather meant that everybody could move outside for photographs and sunshine.
The Wedding Reception
The Saxon Mill is in the typically English town of Warwick. You may have heard of Warwick Castle? Due to this castle the whole town is steeped in the history of English gentry, jousting and battles. Rumour has it that there is a network of tunnels underneath Warwick linking certain important buildings to the Castle, and the Saxon Mill is supposedly one of them (yes I love a geeky fact!). Anyhoo back to the wedding photography story in hand…
The wedding party headed to the Mill for Pimms on the riverside. The pub had cordoned off the most beautiful area next to the waterfall for Alex and Dan (much to the grumps of the public who wanted the best seat in the house!). This made for a pretty special backdrop and a lovely laid-back few hours sipping drinks in the sunshine.
Later everybody moved up to the private function room for a feast and party. I stayed with them just long enough to watch the first pieces of cake being devoured before leaving them to dance the night away to a local band.
Supplier Creds
As ever, weddings don’t just happen. They are always pulled together by truly awesome teams of suppliers who work tirelessly to make sure that everyone has a fantastic day. This particular team was made up of the following:
- Dress: David’s bridal shop in Birmingham
- Cake: was made by Alex’s talented friend Anna Wright who is just starting her fab cake business.
- Flowers: the Church flowers were done by a lady from the church, the Saxon Mill and flower girl flowers were made by a friend of Alex’s mum, the corsages and brides and bridesmaids bouquets were made by Sarah Horne flowers Leamington.
- Venue: The Saxon Mill’s wedding event organiser was Shelley Newman “she was really amazing at accommodating everything we wanted to do”.
- Hair: Jennie Macourek
- Make up: Sarah Hunston
And finally, the all-important wedding photographs
