A night at the museum
Over the years I’ve learnt that anywhere could be a potential wedding venue; from a transformed tatty old village hall, to a farm, to beautiful country home or a private garden… and now a museum. It also so happens that shooting a wedding in a museum was on my bucket list so I was SUPER excited to break into the season with this one.
The first time I met Holly and Sean they told me that they wanted to step away from “the norm” on their wedding day and give their guests an exciting and different way to celebrate their marriage. And I have to say they pulled it off a treat!
Alternative wedding venue – Ashmolean Museum, Oxford
They chose the fascinating Ashmolean Museum in Oxford as their venue, it was special to them as they live in Oxford and spend lots of time around the beautiful architecture. The Ashmolean stood out for them partly because it is so beautiful and partly because it is literally across the road from the Randolph Hotel where they got engaged – a place very close to their hearts.
The Ashmolean is the perfect collision between stunning old-Oxford architecture (complete with fluted stone cloumns, archways galore, grand piano, chandeliers and oak lined rooms) and the super contemporary clean lines, glass and general modern touches found in the newer part of the building.
Choosing to be the first large wedding ceremony to ever be held in the striking long gallery (a room normally reserved for fine dining at weddings), their gorgeous guests were joined by up-lit statues and artefacts to watch the happy couple say I do. Their evening wedding was closely followed by lots of fizz and bowl food in the Atrium; watched over by huge statues with fantastic old family photos projected onto the wall above. After speeches on the stairs it was straight into the party… now that is how to do it!
Chasing Deer, a band Holly & Sean found performing at a local beer festival close to Holly’s home, provided the perfect music for the main aim of the night; dancing the night away!
This wedding was filled with so many smiles, so much fun, laughter and love – what an absolute pleasure to capture. Even had me a good old boogie whilst catching all of the guests in action!

Shout out to the suppliers:
Well there aren’t too many to mention here. Holly didn’t carry flowers, made her own tulip bunches for her bridesmaids and good friend made her beautiful cake.
Of course the Ashmolean was the key cog in this wheel; housing the event and managing it like clockwork, as well as cooking all of the beautiful food: http://www.ashmolean.org/weddings/
